For Real by Alison Cherry

Spoiler Free Review by Krystal
"No parents. No limits. No clue what they're in for. Shy, cautious Claire has always been in her confident older sister's shadow. While Miranda's life is jam-packed with exciting people and whirlwind adventures, Claire gets her thrills vicariously by watching people live large on reality TV. When Miranda discovers her boyfriend, Samir, cheating on her just before her college graduation, it's Claire who comes up with the perfect plan. They'll outshine Miranda's fame-obsessed ex while having an amazing summer by competing on Around the World, a race around the globe for a million bucks.
Revenge + sisterly bonding = awesome.
But the show has a twist, and Claire is stunned to find herself in the middle of a reality-show romance that may or may not be just for the cameras. This summer could end up being the highlight of her life... or an epic fail forever captured on film. In a world where drama is currency and manipulation is standard, how can you tell what's for real"
I was browsing Netgalley and came across For Real by Alison Cherry, and the cover seriously caught my attention. As I began to read the blurb, I knew a book about sisters was going to be captivating and heart-wrenching. This was my first book by Alison Cherry.
***I received a copy of For Real from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.***
Claire. Intelligent, logical, and motivated. Gets her thrills vicariously by watching people live large on reality TV..
Miranda. Creative, adventurous, and outgoing. Claires older, gorgeous, willowy and outgoing sister loves spending her school vacations backpacking with friends and boyfriends, and her summers teaching English in exotic locations. Her and her boyfriend Samir leave for Brooklyn, the day of graduation, and shes really looking forward to spending the night with her little sister.
Samir. Mirandas boyfriend. Egotistical fame whore.
All was going well, until graduation night, when Samir was caught in bed with another woman. All Mirandas future plans are ruined. Claire and Miranda hop in the car and head back home.
Revenge. that is exactly what they need to turn things around. Audition for Lifeline TVs Around the World race, the same one Samir will be in. Whats more dramatic than a girl trying to take down her cheating ex on television? Claire no longer wants to be in the shadows of her sister and wants to prove that she is no longer a child. Not only is she racing for revenge for her sisters sake, shes running for herself.
While at auditions, Claire meets a guy named Will Divine..haha..yes..backwards its Divine Will. They instantly strike some sort of friendship through playing Pop Culture Trivia and he writes his number on her hand. It just so happens...Will makes it as a contestant as well.
Will Divine. Son of a CEO? No not really, but he says he is. Swoon worthy? Ummmm. yes. I suppose?
And on the first day when the teams meet for the first time..there were many surprises for everyone.
"Each leg of the race, you'll be sent to a different country, where you'll complete a series of challenges before finding you way to a check-in point for a rest. The last team to arrive at each check-in point will be eliminated, and the first team to complete the entire race will win...one million dollars."GAME ON! But something is wrong and not all is what it seems. Love was the last thing on Claire or Mirandas mind. When Claire gets paired with Will, she slowly starts falling for him. But is Will what he seems to be? Is he really into Claire, or is he putting on a front for TV?
For Real is about sisterhood and bonding, and reality TV. Claire and Miranda constantly find themselves bickering and not seeing eye-to-eye during the race. But when it comes down too it, they find that they are both sacrificing themselves to save the other.
Unfortunately, For Real by Alison Cherry didn't live up to standards for me. While the entire concept was thrill-seeking and new, it failed to lack something. Instead of not being able to put the book down, I found myself putting off finishing the book. I fully grasped and loved the concept of an Around the World race, I mean who wouldn't? Its creative and fresh!! But as I read, there were many plot holes. Maybe this is just how Reality TV is, and we don't see it because things are cut to edited for TV. But I couldn't enjoy like I wanted too.
For Real is a standalone novel by Alison Cherry, that is written in only one POV.
