"Sometimes you think you know exactly what life is going to be like and then something unexpected turns your world upside down.
Ashley Taylor is just starting her freshman year of high school. She’s certain this year will be exactly like every other. She'll go unnoticed in the shadow of her older brother, Ryan, because he and his two best friends, Todd and Brian, are juniors as well as stars on the varsity football team. Everyone knows and loves them, while she is only a freshman; a nobody.
Ashley has known both of her brother’s best friends her entire life, however, she's never really noticed Todd's clear, blue eyes and perfectly messy hair until now. Unfortunately, he still only sees her as Ryan's kid sister. Not to mention, he's also her best friend's older brother; so she needs to keep her true feelings a secret.

As she navigates her own, difficult feelings, Ashley learns that she's not the only one keeping secrets, and if these other secrets get out, they could destroy friendships... maybe even lives."

Pepped Up by Ali Dean (Pepper Jones Book 1)

Pepped Up by Ali Dean

"Pepper Jones is ready for an epic cross country season. She wants to qualify for Nationals, and she’s willing to do anything it takes to make it happen. She can handle long miles and hill sprints, but boys? That’s an entirely different challenge.
Pepper’s never considered revealing her deeper feelings for her longtime friend, Jace Wilder. After all, he’s got the personal magnetism and good looks to hook just about any girl in town -- and he has. Their friendship stands apart from high school social circles, and they’re both just fine with that (or at least they pretend to be).
That is, until running star Ryan Harding moves to town.
When it comes to running, Pepper’s goals are clear. But when it comes to Jace and Ryan, it’s nowhere near as simple"

Pepper Jones is a runner, that is what her life revolves around. She has never had a boyfriend or even desired to have one, unless you count her infatuation with her best friend Jace. Yes, the Jace Wilder is her best friend. Everything changes when Ryan comes to town.

"The quiet moment is broken when I hear Jace in the woods. "Where is she?" he asks, seemingly to no one in particular. I stiffen, and Ryan stops moving his finger along my arm. When Jace bursts through the clearing across the campfire, green eyes blazing, I think I can actually see what frightens people about Jace. He looks volatile.

"Jace?" I sit up and I hate that my voice quivers. I can see Jace's chest rising and falling as he breathes deeply. His hands clench and unclench. It feels like minutes, although I know it's only seconds, before he slowly makes his way around the campfire and crouches in front of me. "

Pepper quickly learns that she knows very little about Jace since he started high school and made new friends, although they have always been best friends. Jace has always been overly protective when it comes to Pepper, never wanted her to party or drink so when she starts to go out more, he goes out of control.

"When did it start?" I ask.
"I guess I noticed the first time he went all crazy was that night I saw you at Remy's place," Wes says.
"and by get all crazy you mean, get super fucked up right?" Time to stop beating around the bush.
"Yeah, He never gets real fucked up though. He'll chill, have some drinks, and stayed in control."

To outsiders it may seem like Jace has feelings for Pepper, but only she knows the truth. Her attraction to him is one sided, she knows he sees her as his little sister. Or does he?

"I won't do it anymore. If you don't want. If it means I can be with you." Jace says, his eyes searching my face.
"You won't do what? And be with me how?"
"Be with you. Like this. Just like this. I could like here every night and I'd be the happiest person in the world."

With Jace sending mixed signals and her budding relationship with Ryan, what's a girl to do? Does Jace want to be with her? What about her and Ryan, where does this leave them? Does Pepper even want to be with Jace anymore? These are all questions I asked my self when I was reading this story.

Props to Ali Dean for writing such a fantastic book. I laughed and my heart ached when ever Pepper was upset, which happened a few times. With running being such a big part of her life, what's a girl to do when she's confused? Run. And that is what she does with her trusty side kick Dave.

Saving Grace (Wild Rose 1) by Scarlett Jade

Saving Grace (Wild Rose 1) by Scarlett Jade
Published October 27, 2014
Spoiler Free Review by Meagan

"The rule was simple—don't fall in love with a student. Drake had never had that problem—not until he met the buxom brunette in the bar. Grace was one of a kind, virginal but far from chaste. When she wanted him to teach more than history, he was left with a choice that could ruin them both.

Grace was always the good girl, until she met her wild best friend, Christina, who pushed her out of her shell. She fell head over heels for the sexy, young college professor, but when everything shattered around her, she was left with figuring out who she really was. Her journey led her somewhere she never imagined, but along the way she learned that even the wildest roses have to put down roots in a place called home."

Grace grows up in a very strict Christian household, with a dad for a preacher, being a size twenty-two and only five foot four, she knew she was safe. She never tried to act out or prove anything, never went behind her parents back. She never even kissed a boy. That was until she opened her dorm room and met her new best friend. Christina quickly becomes her best friend and helps bring her out of her shell, wearing clothes she never would have dared.

"Christina picked up the ladle in the punch bowl and scooped some of the bright red liquid. She sniffed it and dropped it back in the bowl. "Yeah don't drink that," she mumbled."Why not?" Grace asked. "It looks like punch. "Yeah, do you want to end up naked in Mexico doing a donkey show? The answer should be no. Pass on the innocent looking punch. Always." Christina advised. "Oh, for some reason I don't think being in Mexico and doing a donkey show would be good," Grace agreed.""

And then she met Drake. Oh Drake, I just love him. Even if he is a bit of an ass. When she meets Drake, the chemistry is undeniable, unavoidable, explosive, flammable. Trying to deny it would be like cutting off your own arm.

"I felt...his...wiener!" Grace whispered shrilly. "He ground it up against my butt!"
Scarlett Jade has an amazing way with words, this book made me laugh so bad I had tears, I felt the pain Grace felt when she had so much on her plate and she even gave me a bit of a stomach ache! As I kept on reading, time passed very quickly and even though I should have stopped and gone to bed I knew I couldn't with only so much left of the book. Next thing I knew it was 3 am and I was finally almost done. Grace is an amazing bright and curious young woman. Although there is no cliffhanger, you may want the next book rather quickly, I for one can not wait to delve into the mind of young Christina.

I received a copy of this book from Goodreads First Reads in exchange for an honest review.

"Dylan fights for lost causes. Probably because she used to be one.
Environmental issues, civil rights, corrupt corporations, and politicians you name it, she's probably been involved in a protest. When her latest cause lands her in jail overnight, she meets Silas Moore. He's in for a different kind of fighting. And though he's arrogant and infuriating, she can't help being fascinated with him. Yet another lost cause.
Football and trouble are the only things that have ever come naturally to Silas. And it's trouble that lands him in a cell next to do-gooder Dylan. He's met girls like her before fixers, he calls them, desperate to heal the damage and make him into their ideal boyfriend. But he doesn't think he's broken, and he definitely doesn't need a girlfriend trying to change him. Until, that is, his anger issues and rash decisions threaten the only thing he really cares about: his spot on the Rusk University football team. Dylan might just be the perfect girl to help.
Because Silas Moore needs some fixing after all"

Silas Moore. Silas is not your "typical" Rusk private college student, he does not come from wealth, he does not have the perfect family, nor does he drive a fancy car. Mediocre grades, ill-tempered, and has the tendency to make bad decisions, we met him in All Lined Up...when he was a total ass and joined in on a bet that involved Coach Coles daughter, Dallas, to see who could "bang" her first. Well let's just say...he lost that bet. And from the moment Dallas heard the exchange between him and her ex, Levi Abrams, I did not like him and I want so bad to hate him.

Bad things happen in threes and he ends up in the slammer. And what he does not expect is to be in a cellar next to her.

Dylan. A compassionate, resourceful, capable, and beautiful young woman. She was adopted into wealth and was taught to be proper, to think for herself, and to be smart. As an activist, she wants to change the impossible, wants things to be different. She ends up in the slammer after ignoring officer's orders and camping out in front of a homeless shelter.

Their first kiss is electric and intense. And after, Dylan quickly scurries off. Silas is left confused and horny, which leads to a miserable weekend of alcohol and weed. Practice on Monday does not go well, as for he soon finds himself punished for his actions over the weekend, and suspended from the team for a confrontation with another player. After a knock on the door the same day, he realizes he just may need to be fixed and strikes up a deal with Dylan.

Dylan is a lovable character and shes so passionate about everything. But she thinks too much, she just needs to relax and have some fun. Dylan's next project.... Silas. He's broken, and the anger and hate coming from his past is finally catching up with him...with all these anger issues, he might just loose everything he's worked hard for.

“I will never be able to turn this girl down. Whatever she wants from me, it’s hers. No matter what she asks for, I’ll find a way to give it to her. She may not be mine, but somewhere along the way, I ended up hers.”
As their friendship grows..so does something else. Silas does not do relationships. And even if he did, Silas is not the "type" of guy that Dylan's parents think is right for her ...Will their differences push them apart? Or will their similarities make them closer?
"You are in so much trouble Dylan Brenner.. And troubles name is Silas Moore."
These two are just effin' hott together...holy crapola... I just love their story !!!!

All Broke Down is not a standalone, but can be read as a series...which i strongly recommend.

SUMMARY

Two addicts. One epic love story.

Prepare for the worst.

That’s what Lily and Lo try to do when Jonathan Hale schedules an “important” meeting. The problem: after being swept into the public eye and battling their addictions, they’re not sure what the worst is anymore.

In a sea of many changes—including Ryke & Daisy living with them—Lily realizes that the best part of her fluctuating hormones might just be the worst.

Her sex drive is out of control.

Loren knows that she’s insatiable, but he’s not giving up on her. She’s too much a part of him. And as he carries more and more responsibility, some of the people that he loves doubt his resolve.

In the conclusion to their love story, Lily & Lo stand side-by-side to fight, one last time, for their happily ever after.

"In Texas, two things are cherished above all else—football and gossip. My life has always been ruled by both.
Dallas Cole loathes football. That's what happens when you spend your whole childhood coming in second to a sport. College is her time to step out of the bleachers, and put the playing field (and the players) in her past.
But life doesn't always go as planned. As if going to the same college as her football star ex wasn’t bad enough, her father, a Texas high school coaching phenom, has decided to make the jump to college ball… as the new head coach at Rusk University. Dallas finds herself in the shadows of her father and football all over again.
Carson McClain is determined to go from second-string quarterback to the starting line-up. He needs the scholarship and the future that football provides. But when a beautiful redhead literally falls into his life, his focus is more than tested. It's obliterated.
Dallas doesn't know Carson is on the team. Carson doesn't know that Dallas is his new coach's daughter.
And neither of them know how to walk away from the attraction they feel."

Wicked By Nature by Madison Sevier

I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads in exchange for an honest review.

"What's a witch supposed to do when she learns that she isn't just a witch? Will Selena use her powers for good? Or will she embrace the part of herself that truly is wicked by nature?
Until now, life for Selena Barnes has been fairly easy. Aside from the constant stares and gossip of a few busy-bodies in town, her upcoming wedding to a mortal was all she cared about. When she finds out that no one, not even herself, is who they claim to be, she embraces the powers that she'd buried deep inside, unleashing a catalyst of dire consequences.
When secret after secret is revealed, Selena finds herself racing against time to save her friends, her soul mate, her town and to keep her powers from falling into the wrong hands. Hands that belong to someone she's never met. Someone with whom she shares more than she could have ever imagined. Someone who has been waiting twenty-five years for these events to unfold.

"My name is Selena Barnes and I'm here to tell you that life as a witch isn't all spells and sparkle.
Especially when you’re a high-strung witch who gave up her powers in order to marry a mortal man who just happens to be the most influential and hated guy in all of Salem Ridge.
Try planning a wedding without using magic and you’ll understand why I was already teetering on the edge of my sanity.
Finding out that my fiance is actually a scum-sucking demon who's been trying to get his hands on my magic for a year and realizing that I've been framed for murder was just the tip of the broom!
Long story short: I found out that I’m more than just a spell-casting, potion-making witch. Supposedly, I’m destined to unleash Hell on Earth for my father and his minions.
Oh, and did I mention that in between clearing my name, kicking serious demon ass and catering to my familiar's every whim, I needed to find the time to mate with a sexy werewolf so that I could save the world?
What could possibly go wrong?"

I am trying to broaden my reading list, and I'm glad I stepped outside of the "smutty love" stories. Wicked by Nature, by Madison Sevier as a paranormal romance, full of witches, demons, and wolves. Yes I said it, but don't leave my review yet..this is not your typical paranormal book.

We meet Selena Barnes, a young woman that comes from a long line of witches. When her parents were killed in a magical accident, she surrendered her powers and kept them a secret from her fiance’, Shawn Richardson.

In the little town of Salem Ridge, Selena is a outcast for surrendering her powers. Her fiance, Shawn, is in a high financial position in the town, and isn't all he makes out to be. The entire town thinks Selena and foolish, and she can't figure out why so many people do not like Shawn.

Shawn is out of town on business, and Selena is trying to pull together the finishing touches of their soon to be wedding, when Selena receives an email that will change her entire view of everything. Selena finally learns what her family and the entire town sees in Shawn, as well as a few other family secrets. Selena even falls in love with someone from her past, her "soul mate."

When Selena comes face to face with the Elder Council, she has to decide, is she Wicked by Nature?

I received this book through good reads, and I was hesitant to read it. I've never really thought that I would enjoy a "paranormal" book about wolves, witches, vampires, etc...so the book kinda sat on my shelf for a few weeks. Once I got into the book, it got more interesting. I really liked was Selena's relationship with her familiar, her cat is funny and so protective of Selena. The banter between the two, and the banter between the cat and the underlying characters was hilarious.

"He’s thirty-eight. I’m twenty-three.
He speaks Spanish. I speak English.

He lives in Spain. I live in Canada.

He dresses in thousand-dollar suits. I’m covered in tattoos.

He’s married and has a five-year old daughter.

I’m single and can’t commit to anyone or anything.
Until now. Because when they say you can’t choose who you fall in love with, boy ain’t that the f*#king truth.
***
To a restless dreamer like Vera Miles, it sounded like the experience of a lifetime. Instead of spending her summer interning for her astronomy major, she would fly to Spain where she’d spend a few weeks teaching conversational English to businessmen and women, all while enjoying free room and board at an isolated resort. But while Vera expected to get a tan, meet new people and stuff herself with wine and paella, she never expected to fall in love.

Mateo Casalles is unlike anyone Vera has ever known, let alone anyone she’s usually attracted to. While Vera is a pierced and tatted free spirit with a love for music and freedom, Mateo is a successful businessman from Madrid, all sharp suits and cocky Latino charm. Yet, as the weeks go on, the two grow increasingly close and their relationship changes from purely platonic to something…more.

Something that makes Vera feel alive for the first time.
Something that can never, ever be.
Or so she thinks"

"Laney Walker is a quick witted, athletic, southern tomboy who lets few get too close, using her sarcastic zingers to deflect and no idea how others view her.
Evan Allen's always been "friend zoned" yet protected and coveted Laney since they were children. But college puts a gap between them that neither were prepared for- old relationships are tested, new ones are formed and nothing will ever be the same.
Especially when in walks one Dane Kendrick, not at all the familiar, southern charmer of home, but an animal all his own.
A story of growing up, friendship, loyalty, first love, primal love...and life."

Theres Laney Walker, a 10 year old girl raised by her father (naturally, she becomes a tom boy). When we meet Laney, she has gotten into it with a girl in her class, they think Laney is "angry and acting out," due to the lack female influence in her life. Principal Mills calls Laneys father in, and not only is he not surprised to find that Laney has been involved in a scuff, but that a boy named Evan Allen has stepped in to take up for her. Laneys dad sees this as noble and invited Evan to go fishing.

8 Years later.... We are taken to Laney and Evans senior year in high school. Laney and Evan are best friends. Hes the perfect best friend. He taught her how to drive, and they have many firsts together.

Evan Allen. Hes gorgeous. Six feet tall, lean, shaggy brown hair, blue eyes...total swoon worthy. Oh yeah...and throw in his football status, navy blue letter jacket, and slightly shy demeanor... and you've got every high school girl's fantasy. But he's only got eyes for Laney

Evan finally gets the nerve to ask Laney on a real date.
"Laney, you're THAT girl.. the one guys make up in their head when they put all the parts together to make one perfect girl. "
Actually, they both can not hide their feelings anymore, and its inevitable that they finally decide to go beyond best friends. They are prefect together, and i could not image a better boyfriend for Laney.
"I love her more than any man has ever loved a woman.. I am sure of it. I've loved her since the first time her little tomboy Ass smarted off to me, when she was all dirt and elbows.. and now, she's a goddess."
Evan and Laney applied to the same college, and even though they'd planned on attending the same school, Laneys acceptance letter never came. They both know that with Evan going  to UGA and Laney going to Georgia Southern, things will be different.. they spend the summer together, and once they both leave for school, they never expected it to be this hard. Laney and Evan come to agreement that they aren't going to hold each other back.. They still love each other, but won't hold each other back from happiness while apart.

Laney moves in where her new dorm roomie, Bennett... and her high school best friend, Kaitlyn, is at the college where Evan attends so she and Bennett became instant friends. Bennett wants Laney to live . And when Bennett forces Laney to go to a college event.. and she meets, Dane Kendrick... The guy who changes everything.. (My heart completely breaks right here for Evan)

Dane Kendrick. He is just beautiful. So much different then Evan -  Dark hair, dark eyes, tanned skin.. perfection.. I I never wanted to like Dane. I'm all Team Evan. Laney describes him as " The world's sexiest reason to drop you panties.." Well crap.. now I'm leaving from Team Evans to now..Team Fence.. Splinters or not- I am sitting here and NO ONE can make me move.. I want both. Laney needs both.

"Disney" and Dane ( that is his nickname for her) have such a strong connection. My fingers and my heart are on FIRE.. I'm about to burst.. and I know at this point.. I am a goner- along with Laney.. Hook, line, and sinker - I AM SUNK....
"I won't share you, Laney. Not your lips, not your thoughts, not your body, and especially not your heart. You don't have to give it all to me just yet, but give me nothing if any of it belongs to him."
"Open your eyes, Laney, look at me. Make damn sure you know it's me kissing you, and don't you ever hide from it."
Laney is very mature for her age, but she constantly struggles with her feelings for Dane and not wanting to hurt Evan. But she soon realizes that what she has with Dane is unlike anything she experienced with Evan.

For a little while, we have sorta a love triangle going on..and I absolutely HATE love triangles. Love triangles are a hard subject to get right, but S.E. Hall nailed it in this novel. The emotions are intense and your heart goes out to all of these very lovable characters. This book kept me intrigued from the beginning and I will admit that my chores went neglected until I finished the last page

Evan is not going down without a fight, and god bless his heart. I felt every emotion, my heart leaped out my chest. and broke into a million pieces..and I cried for him.... and it was an UGLY cry.

image

Omg that ending! She picks, but did she pick the right one? What will she do when she realizes what was in the envelope he gave her? Won't that change everything?

Grab a box of tissues and be ready to cry. Emerge by S.E. Hall is going to make you feel thigns you've never felt before.
