"Her first year away is turning out to be nearly perfect, but one weekend of giving in to heated passion will change everything.
Eighteen-year-old Harper has grown up under the thumb of her career marine father. Ready to live life her own way and to experience things she's only ever heard of from the jarheads in her father's unit, she's on her way to college at San Diego State University.
Thanks to her new roommate, Harper is introduced to a world of parties, gorgeous guys, family, and emotions. She finds herself being torn in two as she quickly falls in love with both her new boyfriend, Brandon, and her roommate's brother, Chase. Despite their dangerous looks and histories, both men adore Harper and would do anything for her, including taking a step back if it would mean she'd be happy."
Wow, what can I say about this book? This book should have came with a warning label letting you know your heart will break like an earthquake with little aftershocks to follow painfully ripping it just as it starts to heal again. Everybody on the planet needs to go out and buy this book (along with a box of Kleenex) right now!!! This is amazing, yet heartbreaking story about love, family and friendship.
After eighteen years of growing up under the strict rule of her Marine father 'Sir.' Harper is finally breaking free and going to college clear across the country from North Carolina to San Diego California. After unpacking she takes a nap and later woken up by her procacious roommate Breanna. She tells Harper that her brother is having a party at his house and they will be in attendance. After ruling out everything in Harper's wardrobe, Breanna decides they need to hit the mall. The two girls bond quickly and Harper has a hidden crush on Chase; Breanna's brother.
Chase is tall blond with surfer boy hair and piercing blue eyes. He also has a few tattoos. But the guy is a player. Every time she sees him he is sporting a new chick on his arm lap or wherever else they can hang off him at.
We were team Chase from the moment he was introduced. We fell for his cocky, ignorant attitude, shaggy blond hair, piercing eyes, tattoos, and chiseled body. This boy had the power to make Harper come undone and rethink everything she was doing with her life. His bad boy antics frightened her, but excited her at the same time. I could not get enough of this bad boy, and I found myself frantically turning pages hoping he would reappear in the story once more. #Team Chase
“No. I don't deserve you either. You need someone who will cherish you, protect you and take care of you. Someone that realizes they'd never be able to find another you in the world, no matter how hard they looked.”Drunken Breanna makes it known that Harper is "Pure as Snow." Chase takes her under his wing, and leads her to his bedroom, gives her a change of clothes and pulls the covers in his bed back. Hesitantly, she gets in and he follows after her. After threatening to go Lorena Bobbitt on him, they settle into opposite sides of the bed, and go to sleep.
“One of these days, you'll be begging for me to touch you.”
Then she meets Brandon one of Chase's many roommates. Brandon is equally as sexy as Chase, tall with a buzzed cut and sports a cute dimple in his cheek when he smiles. OH and he is also tatted up. When Brandon returns his interest in Harper, Chase decides he is not feeling it so he tries to run interference. He knows he is not good for her and as far as he is concerned neither is Brandon. Unfortunately the choice is not his. Harper is not having it and she let's Chase know that she can do what she wants.
Taking Chances is basically a tale revolving around Harper, Chase and Brandon. Obviously, it is love triangle of fantastical proportions (or else we wouldn't care, right???). Riiiiiggghhtttt....... After that you will be taken on an emotional ride as Harper becomes torn in between these two guys. She experiences heartbreak and she hands out heartbreak to not one, not two, but three guys. Harper, like the rest of us, makes mistakes. The love in her heart pulls her in two different directions. What do you do when either path you choose will lead to both happiness and devastation? Choices are made, and paths are chosen, but sometimes life has a mind of its own, and we need to sit back and ride the wave.

“People mess up and make mistakes all the time. Everyone deserves a second chance, right?”
I don't want to give away the book... but holy crap...I balled like a baby as I tried to pick up the pieces of my heart off the floor. I highly recommend that you read it. This book was hard for me because I want everyone to be happy and get what they want. Yeah, because that happens all the time in real life, right? My heart ached for every single character. They all have a story. They are all connected. When one suffers, they all suffer. One of the truly beautiful things about this book is the gift of forgiveness and second chances. It’s a good reminder that we all fall short, but we still deserve to be happy and loved.
