"When Mikayla imagined her prom night, she envisioned a fairy-tale evening full of romance. So when betrayal and tragedy come in quick succession, Mikayla is completely destroyed. Suddenly, everything she loved and everyone she relied on are tragically, irrevocably gone.

Jake, a handsome boy she just met, happens to witness her loss. With no one to turn to, Mikayla is forced to depend on this near stranger and his family, and he in turn is determined to take care of her. But Mikayla—thrust into adulthood with no one to guide her—is desperate to contain her grief and hide what she considers to be her weakness. Mikayla and Jake both want more, but despite their growing closeness and intense chemistry, she tries to keep her distance and protect her heart. As he does everything in his power to win her trust, Mikayla must choose between remaining alone and safe or letting love in."

Prepare to fall in love.

Mikaylas life was perfect, she had everything: a happy family, caring mom and dad, and beautiful charming and funny little sister, Emily, handsome looking guy, James as her boyfriend, and best friend-sister like, Megan. Her life was surrounded by laughter and love.

But in one night, Mikaylas fairy tale life ended with tragedy.

Mikayla goes through one of the worst days a person can ever go through, in a blink of an eye.... she loses all the people in her life in one night. How a girl can pick up the pieces of her life back after what she went through is beyond me.

Prom is supposed to be one of the best days of your life right? Wrong. Prom night couldn’t have gone any worse for Micky. After discovering an awful situation before Prom, she breaks down in the bathroom. Unbeknownst to her, the whole scene is witnessed by Jake.

Jake Andrews is a tall and handsome jock from high school that’s being coveted by several universities to pitch for them.  Oh yeah, and hes got an Australian accent!

He invites her to his prom and introduces her to his friends. And before they even get to prom, his friends decide on Operation Mayhem. Lets just say: a bottle of food dye, hundreds of post-its, a death metal CD, a bag of sugar, five garbage bags fill of popcorn, and one roll of saran wrap later -- and you have the perfect revenge on Kayas ex!

One night, he fell in love with a broken girl in the most unexpected time, even when she has reached rock bottom, Jake never let go of her hand and he was the support that she’s never really asked for, but was always there anyways. From there on their love is born in the most unfortunate of circumstances. Jake and Kayla's relationship doesn't happen over night, sure I think that obviously there was an attraction from the beginning, but Jake and Kayla were friends first and foremost, and there is a slow build up, but I think that it was a crucial part in developing a foundation between these two characters.

“ It's Just you. It's only been just you. It will always only ever be just you. ”
Their love story is heartbreaking, he wants to be her forever while she is still devastated and recovering from her loss. He has seen her at her worst and still fallen in love with her. As much as Jake and Kayla want to be together Kayla battles with herself with the belief that she depends too much on Jake for support. I'm not going to lie I wanted to scream at Kayla to wake up and get with the Jake Andrew program. HOWEVER, even with that said I did understand where she was coming from, but still it frustrated me later in the story

Jake is really good people and definitely makes my list of hottest cyber boyfriends. He also has the greatest group of friends. I really loved how they except Kayla and loved her like they had known her for years.  Friendships develop that remind you of your own friends. Lucy especially! :)

“To whoever wrote Fifty Shades of Grey," Cam eyes the sky like he's thanking the Lord. We all laugh and drink.”

The steam o' meter is really off the charts hot in this book, but holy sexual tension is was fun to read about.

I read this book at the beginning of 2014, and I'm ashamed that I'm just now writing a review. But More Than This was the first book I read by Jay McLean, and the moment I picked it up and starting reading, I knew I would FOREVER love Jay!!

More Than This was everything I could have hoped for and more. Superb writing, thought provoking, depth in story & character development, heart and soul. You can't help but fall in love with Kayla's story. Her journey to find happiness, peace, love and ultimately herself was one that will stay with me for a long time.

Oh...and there is an ENTIRE friggin series...HELL yes !!! So don't stop with More Than This... I HIGHLY recommend reading the entire series, for each book intertwines with the other, but so well done that you don't find yourself reading the same thing over and over. Each book revolved around a couple, but you still also get to enjoy the rest of the gang and their journeys!
