"Secrets.
Everyone has one.
Some are bigger than others.
And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you ...
And some will end you.

Kate Sedgwick’s life has been anything but typical. She’s endured hardship and tragedy, but throughout it all she remains happy and optimistic (there’s a reason her best friend Gus calls her Bright Side). Kate is strong-willed, funny, smart, and musically gifted. She’s also never believed in love. So when Kate leaves San Diego to attend college in the small town of Grant, Minnesota, the last thing she expects is to fall in love with Keller Banks.

They both feel it.
But they each have a reason to fight it.
They each have a secret.

And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you …
And some will end you. "

This book was such an inspiration. Holy cow, I'm in awe. As my first read of 2015, I am ruined for all other books.

Kate, also known known as Bright side, moved just outside of Minneapolis for college – leaving California behind along with her best friend Gus – but these two, the bond that they share is pretty spectacular… and even though there’s something underlining their relationship, these two love each other to the point of never allowing anything to damage what they have – they’ve grown up together and Gus? He probably knows Kate better than she knows herself. He’s been there for all the ups and downs – and there have been many for Kate has struggled hard.
“Today, my life is awesome.I don’t want to think about tomorrow.Or the day after that.So I repeat to myself: Today, my life is awesome.”
As Gus is pursuing his dream of being a rock-star, Kate is off to Minnesota to study education. But the warmth of California is severely missed – she’s instant friends with the boys across the hall, Clayton & Pete, and their friendship is AWESOME. Kate has a fantastic habit of bouncing into someone’s life and making herself at home, as if she’s always been there. And as she starts carving a life for herself, making friends, finding a job and her favorite coffee shop – in walks Keller…. tall, dark, handsome – and even though Kate’s never been in love, she’s not sure she can runaway from him. But with underlining issues that pop up here and there, she can’t allow herself to get close to anyone.
description

Bright Side was the best heroine EVER. She had the best attitude, best outlook on life...I want her as my best friend. Kate…. what is there to say about Kate – she doesn't take shit from anybody – she’s a giver to the point of having nothing, she loves with her whole soul, and it’s beautiful. The love she has for music, and that bond she shares with Gus, her best friend back home in California leaps off the pages and you get the chills …. I’m getting them now just thinking about it.
“Don't judge each other. We all have our own shit. Keep your eyes on yours and your nose out of everyone else's unless you're invited in. And when you get the invitation, help, don't judge.”
Keller,he has his own secrets …. one that sends him home back to Chicago twice a month – but as these two spend more and more time together, it’s undeniable the chemistry – but can that chemistry over come his jealousy towards Gus …. the man that has been the most positive constant in Kate’s life.
“Just when you think you know someone, they change. Or you change. Or maybe you both change. And that changes everything.”
This is a love triangle – but not in the literal sense. A triangle that will leave you broken – red eyed – crying at your desk at work because you couldn't put the dang book down.

Kate loves like everyone should – she gives like everyone should. Everyone should live like Bright Side, and a piece of her should live inside of everyone.
“I've always been pretty good at accepting the whole of someone, the good with the bad. I see it all, but try not to let it cloud my judgement. People are complicated. Life is complicated.”
I found Bright Side by accident..and it became my own little piece of Heaven! Without giving anything away, Bright Side made me re-evaluate me. Reading, and more importantly, feeling the struggle that Bright Side was dealing with daily yet truly LIVED and made the choice to be happy smacked me in the face. She chose not to be the victim, to be strong, to take every opportunity and not squander a second.
