So I'm A Double Threat (Double Threat Series #1) By Julie Prestsater

So I'm A double Threat (Double Threat #1) by Julie Prestsater
Released 2009
Spoiler free review by Meagan

In this fun-filled, fast-moving young adult romantic comedy, sassy fourteen-year-old Megan Miller, and her close-knit friends, begin their four year high school journey. Expectations and hopes are high for their Freshman year. Meggie wants nothing more than to experience all high school has to offer – growing freedom, hot boys, parties, make-out sessions, and did I mention hot boys?
Enter Alex Aguilar. At seventeen, he is Carver High’s sports superstar and dreamy superstud. Yet, despite the hype, Alex is undeniably sweet, and Meggie is beyond smitten. But, of course, he is a SENIOR. So, ought to be completely off limits for a ninth grader, right? Age doesn’t always dictate whom you will love, though. So I’m A Double Threat is the start of their journey.
Will young love survive the challenges presented them or is friendship all they can only really hope for? Backs will be stabbed, hearts will be broken, tears will be shed. But, despite this, Meggie’s strong-willed determination, loyalty, and zest for fun will ensure the ride is a memorable one

When we first meet Megan Miller she is a fourteen year old girl on her way to her very first high school party with her three best friends; Amy, Stephanie and Keesha. You quickly learn that Meggie has a huge crush on Alex, I mean its obvious when her friends start to pick on her a little, though Meg doesn't like it very much. I wouldn't either Meg, no worries. Meggie has had a crush on Alex since she met him at Stephs house one day when he was picking up his girlfriend. It was Alex who initially named the girls "Double Threats" at the party.

'It doesn't matter, either way you're a double threat.' He grins. If only I could take a picture of that grin; I'd have it tattooed on the inside of my eyelids.
Double threat? I'm confused. I crumple my brows trying to figure out what it means.
'You know. You're in ASB and you're in honors. ASB students can get away with pratically anything and since you are in honors classes, no one would ever suspect this sweet little girl with a 4.0 GPA would be at some party drinking...uhh, whatcha got in your cup?'
I smile. I can see what he's getting at. I push my brew aside. I don't need it anymore. Like usual, once we start talking, I'm fine. It feels natural. The shivers are long gone.

Of course with Megs luck she wakes up late on the first day of school and has to get ready super fast, then book it on foot to school. No one really cares about what goes on in first day classes anyway, but if you're in honors classes like Meg and her friends, you might want to make sure you actually show up.

Not long after that first day do the girls go to yet another party, except this time when they're walking Alex and his friend Ben stop and pick them up. This is great for Meggie, since Alex and his girlfriend had just broken up. I'm sure Meg was just so upset to hear that information. Not! I wouldn't have been either.

Unfortunately for Meg, someone else has their sights set on Alex, and it isn't just anyone, it's Amy. Yeah, you read that right. I didn't understand it either. I mean Meg is supposed to be your best friend and you know how much she likes Alex, but you still go after him? Isn't that like a rule in the best friend hand book? 'Thou shall not go after best friends crush' or something like that? I guess Amy thinks she is against all the rules. I guess that's okay though because someone besides Alex, but equally as popular and hot, okay maybe not as hot to Meg, but still hot has their sights set on Meggie.

Enter Ben, Alex's best friend. Yeah that's right. It seems like everyone's best friend is going after the people the other likes, or so it seemed to me that Alex liked Meg, but why would he kiss Amy then? High school never did make much sense to me.

But even though Ben likes Meg, it seems like it wasn't meant to be when he escorts another senior during the pep rally for homecoming queen. That other girl? Yeah that's the girl that Ben left Meg in the parking lot of the school after their lunch date. Clearly Meg is just having very bad luck her freshman year.

But at the time goes on, Meg and Alex form a friendship that makes sense to no one but them and us readers. The reason? Because we know Megs feelings for Alex and as for me, I could tell Alex did indeed have feelings for Meg. But for some reason he wouldn't leave Amy.

But again, unfortunately for Meg, her luck just sucks. At Denny's the night of the homecoming dance, Ben pulls some messed up stuff when he tries to hold her pinky in his while standing next to his girlfriend and Meg is next to her date, Eric and everyone around them is watching and waiting for Meg to flip her lid. Like really people? Not everyone is going to freak out, like Meg said he doesn't owe her anything, they weren't dating.

Not long after the homecoming dance do Meg and Eric start dating again, though it's not really a relationship when you have to depend on your parents to drive you and your boyfriend or girlfriend to the movies. Sounds fun, right? Not.

When I first read this book and got to the part about Meg and Eric dating I about freaked out because my name is Meagan and my older brother is named Eric, weird, right? Luckily for me I knew they wouldn't last. Whats a good book with out someone like Meg trying to move on from Alex or Ben with someone else?

As more time passes for Meg and her friends they add more friends to their group like Jon and Josh, those two are definitely something else. The jokes Josh can come up with are funny. Meg and Ben even become friends again and even Vanessa seems okay with Meg, which is awesome since Ben and Meg were initially friends.

But like all good things, they must come to an end. Just like Meg and Eric the book had to end, but not before giving me and I'm sure so many other readers the ending they wanted. Though I can't spoil everything for you! Go buy the book, its free on all sites!

Seriously, if you haven't read this book yet you are missing out. Julie is an amazing author and an even more amazing person, heck she puts up with me and my crazy messages so she must be!

"It's been said the longest echo ever measured lasted 75 seconds, but I can assure you, this will last much longer. The bang deafened the world around me, muting everything into nullity, allowing the reflection of its destruction to live far beyond its intended life.

It will follow me forever, destroying me—destroying you.

You want answers?

So do I."

Leaving an abusive life behind is not a crime.
Katarina Roberts’ only goal is to get the hell out of Belmont, and the further away, the better. After living with an abusive mother most of her life, her brother Drew, part of the town's notorious Knight Crime family, is doing everything he can to help her attend school at UCLA.
Cole Knight is being groomed to take over the Knight family business. A lethal combination of sexy and dangerous, he has no interest in a relationship... until he meets Kat. Cole wants Kat, and will stop at nothing to have her and keep her, and make her part of the ‘family’.
Kat and Cole have an explosive connection from the first moment they lay eyes on one another.
Now, Kat faces the hardest choice of her life… Cole or UCLA? Cole would mean dealing with everything that comes from being a "Knight." A world where you are constantly worrying about your loved ones being hurt or possibly worse. But loving him makes it seem worth it. Or does she stick with the plan to get as far away from Belmont as possible? Will she give up her dreams of UCLA for Cole?

When we first meet Kat in the prologue she's in a club using her fake ID grinding on some guy who is probably way too old for her, but she doesn't care. Unfortunately for her, Drew, does care. When he finds his baby sister in the club, Drew goes a little crazy knocking out the guy she was dancing with. Of course Kat is a little drunk and just yells back at her brother, paying no attention to the guys standing behind Drew. Maybe if she did, she would have realized the guy who wanted her back then, and wants her now as she sits in the little diner waiting for Drew.

When "The Bitch" lets her new boyfriend, Jim, move in she doesn't care that they're assholes. Instead when Kat's mom leaves town for a few days, Jim doesn't wait long at all to start slinking up on Kat, which then forces her to meet up with her brother in this crappy little hole in the wall diner. Kat also has the chance to meet Drew's new friends, one so big Kat decides to call him Hulk. The other guy? He still may be scary looking but according to Kat, she has never seen someone so good looking before, she decides to call him Pretty Eyes. Both nicknames are fitting.

"Drew scans the resturant and, when he sees me, he heads straight in my direction. Two guys I've nevere seen before flank him on either side. One guy is so humongous the he couldn't hide if he wanted. I mean Hulk huge. His hard, scary face gives the impression that he would show no mercy if you crossed him. In fact, some of the diners warily look at him as he walks by them. The other guy catches my attention for a whole different reason. I've seen some good-looking guys in my eighteen years, but damn, the eyes on this guy just draw me in like a fucking magnet. They are the most striking shade of Mediterranean Sea blue, and I can't get past them to look at the rest of him."

When Kat tells her brother what happened with Jim and that she needs a place to stay, he has no problem letting her crash there. But first he needs to pay this asshole a visit first. Little does she know, his friends, Hulk and Pretty Eyes, live there too. After Drew tells her these guys real names, she realizes that she actually knows who Pretty Eyes is, just by name though.

What Kat doesn't know is that Cole was there the night Drew found her in that club, he had his eyes on her then and he has his eyes on her now.

"'Fucking stop looking at me like that, asshole!' I yell in a low tone so that they don't hear me downstairs. 'I can't hook up with you, no matter what my body is saying to me. My brother would fucking flip.'

'Your brother wont say shit. He answers to me, not the other way around. When I want something, I go for it, and Kitten, I want you, so I will have you.'

'Stop calling me Kitten. My name is Kat. K.A.T. Kat. Got it?'

'Well, you're kitten to me, and that's what I'm going to call you.'"

Well then, if a guy told me he was going to call me Kitten and he would have me, I might just faint. I don't think I could let a guy talk to me that way, but then again it is hot to read. Another unfortunate or maybe fortunate thing for Kat is that her brothers house only has three bedrooms. So either she sleeps on the couch, or, she can share a bed with Mr. Pretty Eyes. Hmm, I might have to just share his bed with him. I mean, it can't be that horrible, can it?

"'Wait, you live together?'

A big, shit-eating grin covers Cole's face. 'Yes, Kitten, the three of us share a house.'

'Well, fuck me sideways. I'm in big trouble now. How will I avoid Cole for a whole dame week if he lives there, too? It's not possible. Fuck!'

Yes Kat, how will you avoid Cole for a whole week? I know I probably couldn't. Could you? I mean, come on Kat, you have this gorgeous guy who wants you, granted he probably only wants you for his own reasons, but damn girl. I think everyone secretly wants an Alpha male.

When Kat steps foot in her brothers house, it's surprisingly clean. She can't help but wonder if they hire someone or if there is a live in girlfriend. I mean, I would have trouble picturing these three guys cleaning.

"Thoughts of Hulk vacuuming the living room flashes through my mind. The whole idea is absurd. I start laughing and quickly try to cover it with a cough, but the more I think of Hulk wearing an apron and cleaning house, the harder it becomes to hold in the laughter. It erupts out of me, and all three guys turn to see what is funny. They give me questioning looks because I'm bent over laughing with tears steaming down my face. The three guys are staring at me like what-the-fuck-is-wrong-with-this-bitch. I'm fine until I glance at Hulk and then I start snickering again. His eyes narrow when he realizes he's the source of my amusement."

I'd be laughing too Kat, no worries. Heck, even picturing a guy that looks like Hulk makes me laugh. But then the subject of where Kat is sleeping comes back up, and with that comes the discussion of Cole wanting her. None of this makes Kat or Drew happy, because unlike other times, Drew doesn't try to protect her from Cole. What can he do anyway? Cole is someday going to be Drew's boss, Cole answers to no one, except his father.

Unfortunately for Kat, but fortunately for Cole, Kat is friends with his younger sibling Juliana and Justin. Maybe they can help sway Kat to be with Cole?

"'I'm thinking about my friends at school and how they will react to the news that I'm going to be dating you.'

'Why do I care what your friends will think?'

'Maybe because two of them are your sister and brother.'"

Before Kat can tell Justin and Julie what has happened over the weekend, Cole, Pete and Drew show up at school and well, Cole being Cole, he lets everyone know who Kat really belongs to. After that is all said and done, after Julie freaks out.

"You know, in my family, that is as good as a marriage proposal. When the guy says that, it's basically him saying that she is the one."

Well shit, what is Kat going to do now? How do you go from wanting to get the hell out of dodge to being with a guy like Cole to not knowing how to handle this situation AND still accomplish your goals?

Things get even worse for Kat when she moves into the Knight mansion with Julie and Justin. Growing more attached to these people with plans to leave in six months only means more heartache for everyone involved.

Can Kat leave after everything that happens with her and Cole? What about her relationships with Justin, Julie, Seth, Bruce and Drew? If she does leave, will she still keep in touch? So many questions I can't answer for you. I will however tell you this book ends with a MAJOR cliffhanger and I can not wait for book two to be out.

Pepped Up & Ready (Pepper Jones Series #3) by Ali Dean

Pepped Up & Ready (Pepper Jones book #3) by Ali Dean

Spoiler Free by Meagan
Pepper is finally a senior, and she’s determined to defend her national cross-country title. Although Jace is busy with the demands of college football, he’s still at Pepper’s side, supporting her goals. But is she taking her renewed enthusiasm for training too far?

As Jace and Pepper focus on their athletic ambitions, they discover that Jace’s social status has followed him to college, despite his attempt to keep a low profile. With her boyfriend as an idol on campus, Pepper discovers that she might just be a target to those who find Jace threatening.

Are Jace and Pepper strong enough to withstand the pressure from those who want something from them? It won’t be easy fighting for her title and her boyfriend, but nothing easy is worth winning… or keeping.

Now that Pepper is finally a senior, things should be a breeze, right? Wrong. With Pepper being a senior brings Jace to college life. Although Pepper and Jace are right down the road from each other, they can't just walk across the road to the others house and hang out when ever they want. Senior year in high school for Pepper means busting her but in cross. Freshman year in college for Jace means proving he isn't just some high school football player, but that he can actually help the team win more. But what about the people who are out to get Jace and Pepper?

"Ever since Jace became more than a friend, I knew my life would never be the same."

But it's not just Pepper and Jace who start having problems. Since Jace and Wes became friends again, Wes and Pepper have gotten closer too. Wes is supposed to leave for his fathers alma mater, Princeton, in three weeks, but what happens when he defers for a year?

"'You okay?' I ask, genuinely curious how he will answer.

'Not really. It's like everything I've been ignoring that's shitty about my life has hit me, and i knew i couldn't go to Princeton next week. And now that I told my dad I'm relieved but, like, kind of fucked in  the head too.'

Sometimes girls are just easier to talk to about emotional stuff, and he may never have a discussion like this with Jace or Jim."

With Wes not going to college right away, what might he do instead? He told Pep he would work, have a real job and figure things out from there, stop being that spoiled brat he feels he is. But why does he keep telling Jim he'll think about that job with the construction company? Why not just take it?

Wes seems to be one of the smaller things Jace and Pepper should worry about when Pepper gets flowers delivered to her at lunch one day. Immediately Pepper knows Jace would never send her flowers without a card, but who sent these flowers?

When Pepper finds out she can't race, she doesn't take the news too well. I mean, who would? If racing was your entire life, like football is to Jace, wouldn't you be upset too? I know I would. Instead she is forced to take some time off due to the dreaded I word. That's right, Pepper Jones is injured and if she doesn't cool it and take it easy on her legs, she may not get the chance to prove herself to people, may not get the scholarship she so horribly wants and she may not have the chance to win Nationals for the second year in a row.

While taking it easy, Pepper borrows Zoe's bike so she can get around instead of walking. On her way to campus one night, she notices this white SUV following her, creepy right? So creepy it makes her peddle the bike faster, the faster she peddles the faster she gets to Jace.

"Fear sets in and my legs pump harder. Adrenaline courses through me when I take the final turn to Jace's dorm and the car is still behind me. What if it's some crazy person preying on college girls? I've heard stories about people like that on college campuses. My mind swirls with possibilities until I see Jace waiting for me outside the building and relief floods through me. The car speeds past me as I slow to a stop. The fear disappears and I suddenly feel silly. I'm just on edge from the flowers, The idea of a car following me is ridiculous. If it was, it was probably just because the driver thought I was someone they knew, and when they realized I wasn't they took off."

But something doesn't seem right, the farther into the book I get the more creeped out I get. Why doesn't Pepper tell Jace about the car following her? Why doesn't she have Buns give her a ride to Jace's dorm instead of riding a bike? These questions kept going through my head more and more as Pepper kept things hidden. But finally she is forced to tell Jace when something else happens.

When Pepper is finally allowed to race, she has to work hard to build her strength back up. But when she gets hurt again and ends up in the ER one night, is that the end for Pepper's racing career, or will she be permitted to continue racing again?

Ali Dean definitely knows how to keep me in suspense and make me question who is doing this to Pepper. But when I found out, I had my suspicions on who it was, but I also thought it was someone else too.

With this person taken care of, what will happen to Pepper and Jace? Will they stay together? Will they break up? I guess you'll have to read the book and find out for yourself.

Charlotte McKendrick is your typical thirty-something stay-at-home mom. She has three beautiful children, a loving family, special friends, and the most wonderful, adoring husband. Her life is a dream.

Er . . . let’s try this again.

Charlotte McKendrick is not your typical thirty-something stay-at-home mom. Yes, she’s got three beautiful children, a loving family (all of them lingerers—you’ll see), and her friends are special, all right! As far as her wonderful, adoring husband, what a joke! That bastard abandoned her and the kids six months ago.

Now, she will do anything she can to survive and provide for her children. Even if it means signing on the dotted line . . .

Mitch Colton is the CEO of Colton Technologies. Most of his year is spent traveling around the world, bringing companies the latest innovations in automobile technology. He doesn’t have time for a traditional relationship and the BS that comes with it. He doesn’t do the “marriage” thing, the “kid” thing, and he certainly doesn’t do the “falling in love” thing. All that said, he still wants someone to come home to. Someone who will offer everything he wants, and nothing he doesn’t. He realizes loyalty paired with these kinds of demands won’t come cheap. No problem. What he doesn’t realize is that once Charlotte McKendrick signs that dotted line, he’ll be paying with a lot more than money.

Jacquelyn Ayres was another author that I met at the Book Obsessed Babes Signing Event in Jacksonville, FL. The cover of her book is really what reeled me in...isn't is beautiful? I was so excited to finally start Under Contract and once I began, I couldn't stop reading.

But I’m not innocent.
I haven’t been for a very long time.

Vanished.

I never even had a choice.

Until now.
I’m ready to take back what was always meant to be mine.
